Among the things that the current global crisis has proven is that:

- Humans are resilient and we adapt to survive
- Our creativity has no boundaries
- Everything can be expedited (even vaccine development), and
- Through the good application of technology, much of business can continue as normal

Perhaps there is some subjectivity to what ‘normal’ really means under the circumstances, but let's face the facts. Remote work has been on the increase, and it’s expected to become the “new normal”. Companies are rapidly re-tooling their software and services to empower remote workers to stay productive. Advances in cloud hosted phone systems make it possible for every employee to stay connected irrespective of where they are located.

However, remote work isn’t all that groundbreaking. According to Global Workplace Analytics, in the US, until recently, five million employees — or 3.6% of the workforce — already work from home some of the time. But, the current crisis has forced employers to reevaluate fast. Four out of ten American businesses already offer remote work arrangements, with more than 50% believing that such arrangements can lead to lower operating costs. One way to achieve higher performance from employees is to create a fusion of good tools with effective team management capabilities that can lead to productivity and profitability. If remote work hasn’t already redefined our businesses and careers, it will soon. Products like MS Teams will play an important role in this transition.
