Speaker(s) bio: Angela Downing is the Director of Programs and Events at Families Helping Families of Iowa.  FHF is a local nonprofit that serves all of Iowa’s Children in Foster Care. Angela’s role within the organization is to work with clients to provide services to children in foster care and plan all fundraising and client events.  Angela has been with the organization for over five years.  She takes pride in providing excellent customer service, a strong work ethic, and organizational skills.  Angela has lived in the Cedar Rapids area her whole life and currently resides in Marion with her husband and three kids. She is passionate about her family, and friends, living an active lifestyle, and seeing live music.

Description of program/event: The Foster/Adoptive Parent Resource Fair was created in 2022 after hearing the need for more community resources for our caregivers.  The event is designed to gather existing organizations/businesses that offer services that our caregivers are in search of.  With a shortage of mental health workers, it has been clear that children in foster care are needing more than our caregivers can find. Families Helping Families was made more aware of the mental health crisis as the Covid pandemic began in 2020.  Our short-term solution to this problem is to provide more resources to our caregivers.  Our long-term goal would be to hire a mental health professional to help foster youth and caregivers on their journey.
