Resource Recovery and Waste Management
Program: Resource Recovery and Waste Management
Description: On average, Linn County residents and businesses generate more than 500 tons of solid waste to be landfilled daily. Annually, the Cedar Rapids Linn County Solid Waste Agency gives away more than 120,000 pounds of household chemicals and cleaners in an effort to keep them out of the landfill. Our landfill is engineered to isolate the waste from the surrounding environment as much as possible and our mission is to ensure the health and safety of Linn County residents through proper management of discarded resources. This tour will include environmental projects like pollinators and alternative energy, the Agency’s nearly 50,000 square feet Resource Recovery Building, and weather permitting, the active landfill cell.
